María Conchita Alonso, born María Concepción Alonso Bustillo on June 29, 1955, in Cienfuegos, Cuba, is a Cuban-born Venezuelan-American actress, singer, and beauty queen. At age five, her family relocated to Caracas, Venezuela, following the Cuban Revolution. She began her career in entertainment early, winning the Miss Teenager World title in 1971 and later representing Venezuela in the Miss Venezuela 1975 pageant, where she placed as first runner-up and went on to become a top-seven finalist at Miss World 1975. Alonso’s early work included modeling and television hosting, eventually leading to roles in Venezuelan telenovelas and films. In 1995, Alonso made history as the first Latin-born actress to star in a Broadway production, playing Aurora in Kiss of the Spider Woman. Beyond her entertainment career, she is an advocate for animal rights and pro-democracy causes, particularly in Cuba and Venezuela. As of 2025, Alonso is actively touring in Mexico and preparing to release a new album titled Tropical, produced by Latin Grammy winner Fabián Rincón.
